If you are a journalist, then you must be looking for a laptop that can back up your work, and help you with your projects. There are lots of laptops in the market that is made for journalists, and we have handpicked the best laptops for them.
The laptop for journalists is going to be different for every journalist. What’s the most important thing for you to consider? What will you work on most? What do you need to get the job done?
The laptops for journalists are generally high-end machines with powerful processors and plenty of RAM. However, these laptops can be expensive and are not always necessary for a journalist’s needs.
This guide is designed to help you figure out which laptops are best for your needs and budget, but it’s not meant to be the end-all, be-all of choosing a laptop. It’s only one tool in your arsenal.
We’ve distilled our research into a few key factors:
Size. Will you be typing long articles on your screen or need a smaller laptop that can be used while on the go?
Keyboard and touchpad. If you’re writing news copy or editing video clips, do you need a keyboard that works well with those tasks or one that will feel more comfortable over long periods of time?
Screen size. How many words can fit on one page of text, or how many seconds of video can fit on an Instagram post? Does portability matter to you?

Storage space. If you’re working on a large project with lots of graphics and files, do you need more available space than if you’re just doing simple work at home?
Many Journalists use their Macs for writing. If you’re like me and write by hand on paper first, then type your writing into the computer, your needs will be different than those of writers who use the computer as they go.
If you write on paper, you can get away with a basic MacBook Air or even an older MacBook or MacBook Pro. Since you don’t need to do much work on the computer itself, you can even use an iMac or an iPad without any problems; just be sure to have a reliable way to transfer your files from paper to the computer.

Pros and Cons
The 15.6-inch laptop is one of the most affordable laptops with 3D cameras, Intel’s latest CPUs and discrete graphics. As laptops with 4K displays are becoming increasingly popular among people who need a larger display.
The UX360UA comes with a smaller 7th gen Core i5-7Y54 or Core i7-7Y75 processor and 8GB of RAM. For storage they use a 256GB SSD in the UX330UA and 512GB SSD in the UX360CA series. However, ASUS has added just one USB 3.1 Type A port on both laptop models as well as an HDMI port and a microSD card slot for expandable storage options.
Drawbacks
The screen of ZenBook 15 is not bright enough. It is only 200 nits, which is far less than the 250 nits. This may cause problems when you are working outside on a sunny day. The battery life of this laptop is not excellent as well as other laptops. This can last up to 8 hours of battery life, which is quite sufficient for every work but it cannot compete with other laptops available in the market.
The problem with this laptop is that it cannot be repaired easily as many parts of Asus ZenBook are glued together due to its sleek design structure.
2. Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop
Series | XPS 13 9310 |
Brand | Dell |
Specific Uses For Product | Multimedia, Personal, Business |
Screen Size | 13.4 Inches |
Operating System | Windows 10 |
Human Interface Input | Touchscreen |
CPU Manufacturer | Intel |
Card Description | Intel Iris Xe Graphics |
Color | Silver |
Connectivity Technology | Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB |
The Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop is an entry-level gaming laptop. The Core i5 model isn’t the fastest in our lineup but it’s got plenty of power for casual gamers and artists. It also has a 4K screen that looks amazing even when viewed up close. The Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop is the company’s current high-end gaming laptop, featuring a powerful processor, top-of-the-line graphics card, and optional ultra HD display. But it’s also quite expensive, so if you’re looking to save some cash, here are five cheap alternatives to consider.
Laptops are usually heavier than your typical PC
The XPS 13 is the world’s smallest 13-inch laptop, but that doesn’t mean it was compromised. It still has a full-sized keyboard and a larger than usual display. Plus, with a stunning UHD+ touch screen and Intel Evo platform verification, this 2 in 1 laptop is perfect for any mobile professional looking for a reliable, high-performance PC to take with them wherever they go.
Windows 10 Home gives you the best experience for starting fast and getting things done. Ultra-light at only 2.5 pounds (1.2 kg), the new XPS 9310 features an 11th Gen Intel Core processor enabling you to work, play and create anywhere you are without sacrificing on power or performance.
but this one is incredibly light
You’ll love how light the XPS 13 is. At just 2.8 pounds (1.27 kg) and 11-17 mm in thickness, it’s amazingly compact. And with up to 18 hours of battery life, it has enough juice to last you through a full day of work or even an entire cross-country flight.
The XPS 13 is built with carbon fiber material that keeps it lightweight without sacrificing durability. It also uses a sleek aluminum finish that looks professional and stylish but doesn’t add much weight or bulk. The InfinityEdge display allows for an incredibly small bezel on all four sides, giving the laptop its minimalist design while providing the largest screen possible on a small footprint. The laptop fits nicely into backpacks, briefcases, and bags designed for laptops so you can take it wherever you go—and show off your bold style at the same time!
It still has the same high resolution touchscreen display as the XPS 13
You’ll find the same high resolution touchscreen display on the XPS 9310 that you’re used to on the XPS 13. The screen is bright and clear, with a good quality display. Viewing angles are good, and it supports 10-point multitouch for when you want to use it as a tablet PC.
The touchscreen is responsive and works well, as does the touchpad, which glides smoothly beneath your finger like a sheet or butter.
The overall build of the laptop feels very solid – although it does have an aluminium top lid and carbon fibre palm rests (the same as before), it’s now made from recycled ocean plastics!
This laptop comes with a very respectable set of specs and can run any modern game on medium to ultra settings at 1080p
When you’re shopping for a laptop, one of the most important things to consider is what kind of hardware it comes with. The Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop has a solid set of specs that let it do many things very well. You’d be able to run any modern game on 1080p ultra settings with this machine, which is great if you’re a gamer. It could also work well as your personal or professional laptop if you are a video editor or graphic designer. Because it’s good at so many things, this laptop should work for most people who just want one good machine for doing everything from schoolwork to playing games in their spare time.
The speakers aren’t the loudest we’ve heard, but they’re decent enough
You won’t want to use your XPS 9310 as a speaker replacement anytime soon, but if you’re watching Netflix or listening to music in a quiet room, the speakers manage to do a decent job. The only issue is that they’re pretty quiet, so even at full volume, don’t expect much in terms of audio fidelity. This also means that when you put it on your lap and muffle the sound with your legs, you’ll really have trouble hearing anything at all. It’s too bad Dell didn’t put some beefier speakers on this laptop—but given how lightweight it is, we can understand the sacrifice they made here. That said, most people should be fine with what’s there—they’re good enough for most situations.
Bateries don’t last as long as they do on other laptops and are smaller than you’d expect
To give you an idea of how long the battery will last, if you use your laptop for normal tasks (browsing the web, using office apps, and so on), you can expect to have around 12 hours of battery life.
The battery itself is 97 watt-hours (Wh) in size. For comparison, that’s smaller than the average 13-inch laptop today.
so plan on charging it every few days if you’ll be using it for work purposes
But this XPS 13, with its excellent display and comfortable keyboard? Yes. This one’s a computer that will make you want to get up in the morning. I’ve been using it as my home computer for the past month, and I’m sadder than usual because I have to send it back today.
It’s an extremely light and thin laptop made of matte silver aluminum, a beautiful design that looks even more attractive next to the chunky MacBook Air M1 that sits on my desk at work. It has a lovely big trackpad, an excellent keyboard (with backlighting!) and an incredible 13-inch touchscreen display with tiny bezels around all four sides — there’s just enough room for the front-facing webcam to fit at the top. It has a nice heft to it without being heavy or cumbersome.
The only problem: The battery lasts about seven hours, which would be fine if this were a laptop you used in one spot all day long (like your desk at work). But if you’re moving around from place to place with it, so plan on charging it every few days if you’ll be using it for work purposes (like me) or every night or two if you’re just going from home to school and back again.
Its webcam is slightly better than the webcam on most other laptops
The Dell XPS 13’s webcam is slightly better than the webcam on most other laptops.
Its 1080p resolution is average, but it’s not bad. The quality isn’t great, but you shouldn’t have to worry about your coworkers seeing your double chin (unless you actually have a double chin).
In short, the webcam is average for a laptop. It’s better than the webcams on some other laptops, but it will not yield high-quality results in low light. Most of us don’t need that kind of camera anyway—just something so we can look presentable during Zoom meetings and video calls with family.
This laptop isn’t waterproof or spillproof
Note that this laptop isn’t waterproof or spillproof, though it does have a touchscreen and an extremely high-resolution display. If you want to use some of the keyboard shortcuts on the screen instead of having to use your trackpad, you can do that. If you’re worried about the laptop being too thin and light for its own good, don’t worry: at 14.1 x 9.2 x 0.5 inches, it weighs less than 3 pounds (1.36kg), making it very compact indeed. Its specs are also very good: Intel Core i7 quad-core processor with Turbo Boost up to 4GHz; 16GB RAM; 256GB SSD; 2TB HDD; and Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 GPU with 4K UHD support (which is pretty much an afterthought for most gamers).
In addition to its impressive specs, this laptop has a very good set of ports: USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 3 support (x2), USB Type-A port (x3) and microSD card reader (x1). It also has a headphone jack and a built-in fingerprint reader which is great if you plan on using Windows Hello face recognition too often. The laptop comes with Windows 10 Home OS installed on its 256GB SSD drive but not Office 365 yet preinstalled so you will have to purchase it separately if you need it right away
so you’ll want to be careful around water or liquid spills
This laptop is not waterproof so you will want to be careful around water or liquid spills. Don’t leave it lying around near a glass of water, or when you’re at the pool, or in the bathroom, or anywhere near your dog or cat, and definitely don’t use it in the rain.
A great lightweight laptop that can run all common video games without skipping a beat
The Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop is a great choice for anyone who wants to game. It is lightweight, slim, and can run most modern games without skipping a beat.
If you are looking for a gaming laptop, the Dell XPS 9310 Thin and Light Touchscreen Laptop is worth considering.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- You won’t be weighed down by this laptop. It’s 2.64 lbs, which is less than half the weight of a normal laptop and about as much as a gallon of milk.
- It’s got a long-lasting battery life that’ll last you all day on one charge-12 hours and 40 minutes! That’s five hours more than your average laptop.
- It has an extremely bright screen, with 500 nits (the unit used to measure brightness). This means it can compete with the sun! Your eyes will thank you while typing outside in July.
- The webcam is 4K, making it crystal clear for video conferences and reading people’s lips during Zoom happy hours.
Cons:
- That long battery life is for when you’re not doing anything intensive on the computer; if you’re watching videos or playing games, the battery only lasts about six hours. Which is still…not bad? I guess?
- While this laptop probably won’t malfunction during an unexpected rainstorm, it isn’t waterproof or sweatproof. If any moisture touches your keyboard while working out at home, consider yourself in trouble! Also don’t bring it with you to the beach because that would be reckless anywa.
Drawbacks
While this is a great laptop with an impressive feature set, it does have its drawbacks. The first and most glaring is the webcam—it just doesn’t quite measure up, offering only 720p HD resolution. Similarly, the speakers are okay, but not much more than that.
We also have to admit that the battery life is not extraordinary by any means, although it was designed with portability in mind. If you’re looking for a laptop that can give you a solid day of work without needing to be plugged in at all times, then this may not be the best choice for you.
The final drawback to point out is one which applies across the board: This model is not waterproof and therefore needs to be taken care of with extra caution when near liquids or being carried around in damp weather conditions.
3. Microsoft Surface Pro 6
Series | Surface Pro 6 |
Brand | Microsoft |
Generation | 8th Generation |
Screen Size | 12.3 Inches |
Operating System | Windows 10 Home |
Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is the 2-in-1 laptop that can replace your PC. Ultra-light and versatile, it’s loaded with up to 16 GB RAM to help you power through your workday. The 12.3″ PixelSense display has stunning color and contrast that comes to life with Surface Pen and touch. Developed by Microsoft, this product pairs perfectly with the Microsoft Surface Slim Pen for ultimate productivity.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is the best 2-in-1 laptop on the market right now. You might think of it as a tablet, but you get a lot more out of this device than what you might with an iPad Pro. It’s also faster than most other laptops in its class, and that means you’ll be able to accomplish all your tasks with ease.
The Surface Pro 6 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen display and runs Windows 10. It comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, though there are versions available that have up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage if you want to spend more money (and those models will cost between $1500-$2000).
There’s also an optional stylus pen for drawing or writing on screen which costs about $100 extra — but it’s worth considering since it makes using this device much easier when using it as a tablet rather than just typing on keyboard like any old laptop computer would have been used for back in 2007!
Ultra-light and versatile
Take it anywhere. Surface Pro 6 is a laptop, but it can also be your tablet — with a touchscreen and Surface Pen that lets you write, take notes and even draw. It’s super lightweight at just 1.7 pounds, so you can carry it anywhere. You can slide the kickstand out to work or watch videos at your desk, kitchen table or evem airplane tray table.
The 12.3″ PixelSense display has stunning color
The 12.3″ PixelSense display has stunning color and contrast that comes to life with Surface Pen1 and touch. Go from laptop to tablet with the multi-position Kickstand and keyboard, for a powerful, portable PC that adapts to you.
contrast that comes to life with Surface Pen and touch
The Surface Pen4 is sold separately. It’s a natural writing and drawing tool, with precision ink on one end that now enables tilt1 and a natural-feeling rubber eraser on the other. Palm Block technology allows you to rest your hand naturally on the screen, while you write. You can personalize your writing style with 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity5 and virtually no lag between the Pen tip and your line — giving you precise control over a range of artistic effects.
Low pen parallax means everything you draw appears exactly where you intend on screen, not an inch away as it does on many other devices. Write or draw in ink that flows on the screen just like it would with a real pen or pencil. Experience tilt support — draw at an angle just like a real pen, even shading with the side of your Pen tip! And use the eraser to easily erase things just like you would with a pencil’s eraser head – even using it to switch tools in applications like OneNote and Photoshop.

Windows 10 Home comes installed
The Surface Pro 6 runs Windows 10 Home, the most recent version of Microsoft’s operating system, which comes installed and is updated automatically. Windows 10 is quicker than ever, but it’s also elegant and intuitive. Here are five reasons you’ll love it:
- It has all the features most people will ever need. The Start menu is back in a bigger way than ever before, with live tiles providing users with up-to-date information on things like weather and news headlines.
- It’s a familiar and personal experience. Positional sound, facial recognition, voice control with Cortana—all of these things allow Windows 10 to interact with its user in new ways that make it more personal than any previous Windows operating system has been.
- It’s the most secure Windows ever. Security comes first in this operating system; there are multiple layers of security built into every aspect of it to protect your sensitive data from hackers or malware that might try to steal it from you (or your computer).
- It’s compatible with software and hardware you already own. You can run old programs alongside new ones without any issues or compatibility problems; plus many peripherals like printers work just fine without having to install extra drivers for them first!
- It’s the best Windows ever. Speedier performance combined with a more modern interface make this one solid choice when choosing an operating system.
along with essential productivity apps like Word
If you prefer to use Windows apps, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a great choice.
Along with essential productivity apps like Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, it also comes with OneNote, which is ideal for students.
Excel
To create a spreadsheet, go to File, click New and select Spreadsheet. Type your data into the spreadsheet. To perform a calculation, select an empty cell, enter the formula and then press Enter on your keyboard. To add borders around cells in a spreadsheet, select the cells you want to format, right-click and select Format Cells. Click the Border tab and use the drop-down list to choose borders for each side of selected cells. Select OK when finished.
PowerPoint
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a powerful technical gadget that comes pre-installed with PowerPoint, which is an application that allows you to quickly and easily create professional-looking presentations.
- What Can You Do With PowerPoint?
- Some things you can do with this app:
- Add images to your presentation and crop them however you like (for example, if there’s a pesky car in the background of your image, you can crop it out!)
- Insert and play videos from websites like YouTube and Vimeo!
- Add text boxes in different shapes—the options are endless!
Outlook
Microsoft Outlook is a personal information manager from Microsoft, available as a part of the Microsoft Office suite. Although often used mainly as an email application, it also includes a calendar, task manager, contact manager, note taking, journal and web browsing.
It can be used as a stand-alone application or can work with Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft SharePoint Server for multiple users in an organization. It stores messages in either the .msg or .oft format.
Outlook’s default file format is Unicode MSG format that provides support to multiple recipients, storing of embedded multimedia objects (attachment), custom formatting and features etc.
OneNote and more
Your Microsoft account is the combination of an email address and a password that you use to sign in to services like Outlook.com, OneDrive, Windows Phone, or Xbox Live. It’s also the account you use to sign in to Skype, Office Online, OneNote, and more.
If you’ve forgotten your password or it’s been compromised, click below to reset it. This can help keep your account secure and ensure that only you can access your information.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a 2-in-1, meaning you can use it as a tablet by removing the keyboard. This means you can use the touchscreen to play certain games. Although it does not perform well on intense games, some light gaming will work fine.
The laptop has a large screen at 12.3 inches and has good battery life of up to 13 hours of video playback, which means you won’t have to constantly charge your laptop while doing schoolwork. The processor, Intel Core i5-8250U Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (Turbo 3.4GHz) 6MB SmartCache , is fast enough to get your job done efficiently.
There are plenty of ports for all your accessories: one USB 3 port on the right side and a slot for microSD card with 128GB of internal storage on the left side so that you can store more pictures or movies without cluttering up your desktop or external hard drive with files and folders that are taking up too much space! The sound from this machine’s built-in speakers may be better than what comes out through headphones (depending on how good they are). It also has Bluetooth connectivity if needed when connecting devices such as mice/keyboards without wires!
Drawbacks
Microsoft could have revised the Surface Pro 6’s design to make it easier to use and more pleasant to look at. The kickstand is flimsier than it should be, and its placement on the back of the tablet means it won’t stand up if you have a cover case attached.
The keyboard cover also has some curious design quirks. We made do with the functions available on our tester model, but if we wanted to change audio volume or screen brightness without having to dig into the operating system, we’d have had to purchase Microsoft’s $130 Signature Type Cover, which includes a row of dedicated media keys.

The chip also features a video engine supporting up to three 4K displays via DP 1.2/eDP 1.3 and HDMI 2.0a connections (or two 5K monitors at 60Hz if two DisplayPort 1.3 outputs are available). The faster variants with higher clock speeds are usually reserved for larger laptops with better cooling solutions.
Firewire Port , 3x USB 3.0, HDMI, SD Card Reader, Bluetooth 4.1, Backlit Keyboard
The LG gram 14Z980-A.AAS7U1 is an excellent choice for businesspeople and creatives on the go who need a lightweight laptop that is both powerful and long-lasting enough to use throughout the day without plugging in. With a weight of just 2.16 lbs, this LG Gram model is significantly lighter than most other laptops, which can weigh almost twice as much (the average laptop weighs 4 pounds).
It’s also extremely thin at 0.6 inches, so it takes up little space in your bag compared to bulkier laptops that are more than an inch thick—or even thicker. The sophisticated dark silver design boasts a sleek magnesium alloy body and rounded corners for an elegant appearance that looks great in professional settings or anywhere you need to look classy.
Compact 14 inch laptop with easy access to ports and entire keyboard
This laptop comes with a full-size keyboard and a variety of ports. To access the ports, you simply plug in any cable into them and you’ll be able to transfer data between your computer and whatever device you’ve plugged in. The keyboard is made of durable materials that can withstand many years of typing. You may clean the keyboard or ports with alcohol or water.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- the screen is bright and clear, plus it has a nice curved screen
- the sound came out really good, plus the speakers are at the top of each side
- the laptop is lightweight and compact
- there’s a light on it when you close its lid
- it gets very hot in the summer, so you’ll need to open it up to cool down
Drawbacks
However, there are some drawbacks that you should be aware of when purchasing. The first is the battery life. Although this laptop has a good battery life, it definitely doesn’t live up to the “all-day battery life” claim made by LG. Indeed, if left in idle mode or on energy saving mode, you may get all day use out of it – but only just. If you want to play games or watch videos however, then its battery won’t last as long as you’d like.
Secondly, it is not suitable for gaming and video editing. This laptop isn’t designed for heavy gaming and whilst it may handle lighter games well enough; don’t expect to run the latest and greatest titles on the highest graphics settings! The same can be said for video editing too. If you are looking for a device that can edit 4K videos smoothly then this laptop probably isn’t for you!
Thirdly, the sound quality of this laptop is also relatively poor – especially when compared to other laptops in its price range such as those offered by Dell or Lenovo – which have much better sound quality (and speakers).
Lastly, its webcam quality leaves something to be desired too with many people complaining about how grainy the image quality is compared to other webcams such as those found on Macbooks (which have excellent webcam quality).
5. ASUS VivoASUS VivoBook 15 Thin & Light Laptop
Series | VivoBook 15 |
Brand | ASUS |
Screen Size | 15.6 Inches |
Operating System | Windows 10 Home |
Human Interface Input | Keyboard |
Card Description | Dedicated |
Color | Slate Gray |
Connectivity Technology | USB-C™ 3.1 USB 3.1 USB 2.0 HDMI microSD card reader |
Hard Disk Size | 512 GB |
Processor Count | 4 |
This is the newest ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop. With a slim NanoEdge bezel, brushed-metal finish, the latest AMD Ryzen 7 processor, and Radeon Vega 10 discrete graphics, it delivers uncompromising performance. It’s the ideal laptop for daily computing and entertainment.
The new precision touchpad (PTP) technology on VivoBook 15 ensures pinpoint accuracy for a highly sensitive touch experience that’s as natural and intuitive as using a touchscreen. The backlit keyboard allows you to type comfortably in dimly lit environments such as airplane cabins and public areas.
Processor
The ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin & Light Laptop is equipped with an AMD Quad-Core R7-3700U Processor (2.3 GHz base frequency, up to 4 GHz burst frequency, 2 MB cache). It has four processing cores to handle all your multitasking needs. The processor also features 4 GB of memory for quick access to frequently used files and programs.
Memory
RAM is fast, and important, and the best. It’s especially great in this laptop because it has a lot of it. And while this may be true of most laptops out there, you don’t need all those other laptops. You only need this one, because here’s why:
- RAM is very fast.
- RAM matters a lot.
- RAM is definitely the best part about any laptop.
Storage
The ASUS VivoBook 15 offers a 512GB hard drive, which should be more than enough to store pictures and music. The hard drive is an SSD, or solid state drive. SSDs are desirable because they use flash memory and don’t have moving parts like HDDs (hard disk drives) do, making them faster at reading and writing data.
They are also more durable than HDDs, so the laptop won’t break just because you bump it around a little bit.
Should this storage still not be enough for your needs, you can expand it by using external storage drives.
Graphics
This laptop features the AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics card. The AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 is a mobile integrated graphics solution by AMD, launched in February 2018. Built on the 14 nm process, and based on the Raven graphics processor, the device supports DirectX 12.0. It features 512 shading units, 32 texture mapping units, and 8 ROPs.
The Raven graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 123 mm² and 3,000 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon Vega 3 Mobile, which uses the same GPU but has all 192 shaders enabled, AMD has disabled some shading units on the Radeon RX Vega 10 to reach the product’s target shader count.
The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1100 MHz, which can be boosted up to 1300 MHz.(2)
This laptop also features an advanced version of this card called AMD Radeon Vega 10 Graphics.(3) This card supports DirectX 12_1 for improved gaming performance.(4)
Display
While people have been making laptops since the late 1800’s, it wasn’t until around 2010 that they started to become popular. These days, most people use laptops to do all sorts of things, from watching movies and playing games to reading books and researching papers. If you are interested in learning more about using a laptop for one of those purposes, keep reading!
- Screen: The screen is an important part of the laptop because it displays everything that you want to see on your laptop. This includes websites, videos, photos, documents and other files like PDFs. A good screen should be easy to see and clean so that you can read what is displayed there without having any problems with glare or fingerprints getting in the way.
- Keyboard: A keyboard is an important part of a laptop because it determines how well you can type on your device. You want something comfortable enough for long periods of time but also durable enough that if it does break down after many years then you won’t need to replace your whole computer just yet!
- Trackpad: A trackpad is used by moving your finger across its surface which will move around a cursor on the screen so as we’ll discuss below this means having one large enough without being too big (or too small) when compared against other parts like batteries etcetera might matter depending upon what kind of activities plan on doing most often while using them (e.g., Web browsing requires less precision than word processing).
Operating system
ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin and Light Laptop, 15.6” FHD Display, AMD Quad Core R7-3700U CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD, AMD Radeon Vega 10 Graphics, Fingerprint Reader, Windows 10 Home, Slate Gray:
- Windows 10 operating system included
- 64-bit
Keyboard
The F512DA-NH77 laptop is a compact, lightweight, and attractive machine. It comes with an AMD quad-core processor and 8GB of memory, which is more than sufficient for most everyday tasks. Its storage space is also plentiful at 512GB, which allows you to store multiple albums in audio format without worrying about space limitations. Should you decide to purchase the optional keyboard cover, it has a fingerprint sensor that can be used to unlock your computer without typing in a password or PIN code. The laptop was very quiet when I tested it; I could barely hear the fan whirring in operation. It didn’t make any noticeable “clicking” noises when I typed on the keyboard either—it makes no noise at all.
Touchpad
Say goodbye to the traditional mouse. Now, you can control your laptop with just a swipe of your fingers.
The ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin & Light Laptop recognizes every one of your fingers (and thumbs). While it doesn’t have quite the same level of sensitivity as the human skin, it’s still pretty impressive how far we’ve come in terms of technology.
Another feature is a fingerprint sensor. This means you don’t need to remember any passwords or PINs to access the device itself. Just use the fingerprint scanner on either side of your laptop, and that’s all you’ll ever need!
This is a very safe product to buy
If you’re in the market for a thin and lightweight laptop in black, the ASUS VivoBook 15 Thin & Light is a very safe product to buy. For under $600, it packs virtually all of the latest-generation components and has been rated highly by consumers. It’s equipped with an Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD drive and AMD Radeon R7 graphics. Its unique brushed aluminum chassis is glossy but tough; its keyboard feels sturdy yet soft; its trackpad offers smooth glides when you need to click or swipe.
The Pavilion laptop features a full HD IPS display (1920 x 1080) that looks good for media consumption and makes text easy to read on websites . The backlit keyboard is colored in dark gray with accents of black toward the keys that allow you to see which number you’re pressing easily .
In terms of audio, the 2 speakers are located on either side of the keyboard depending on where you hold your hands when typing . You can adjust their volume up to 100% or turn them off entirely if things tend to get too loud or quiet during movies or presentations .
While this particular model has no dedicated optical drive , it comes with both HDMI out and USB 3.0 ports so that users can connect other devices such as TVs via HDMI and transfer files between them without using an external hard drive
Not only does this device provide everything it needs to be functional but it also offers enough extras including fingerprint reader (for logging into Windows), stylus pen support (for handwritten notes), built-in mic around microphone mute button on top panel, touchpad with multi-touch gestures like pinch zoom zooming , and integrated headphone/mic combo jack into one port
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Comfortable keyboard. I usually don’t like the feel of laptop keyboards but this one is very nice.
- Good battery life, especially considering the price and specs. I’ve been able to get a day’s worth of work out of it consistently (about 5 hours). It charges pretty quickly too which is nice.
- Great value for money, you really can’t beat it for the price in my opinion.
- Lots of ports! Type C USB is great for transferring files from your phone to your laptop and all the other ports mean that you don’t have to deal with dongles for devices such as mice or SD card readers
Cons:
- Speaker quality isn’t great, but then I wasn’t expecting speaker quality from a laptop at this price point anyway so no biggie there really
Drawbacks
The drawback of this laptop is the price. Even though $700 is not a lot for a good quality laptop, it can be a bit expensive if you are on a very tight budget. Unfortunately, this laptop does not have a dedicated GPU so it will not be suitable for high end games.
The battery life could also be better. There were some software glitches. The fans can also get noisy at times especially when there’s an intense game running or heavy program working in the background. The fingerprint scanner was also reported to be flaky and unreliable at times by many users who purchased this laptop .
Some users also complained that the touchpad didn’t work properly after updating their device to Windows 10 and they had to disable and enable it again in order to make it work properly again. It would have been nice if there were more ports rather than just one USB 3 port and two USB 2 ports which are usually occupied by plugging in the charger, mouse and other devices like headphones or flash drives leaving no space for any other accessory that needs to be plugged into the laptop while using it.

Pros and Cons
The HP Envy 13 is the laptop for you if:
- You want a stunning display
- You want a thin, lightweight frame
- You’re willing to spend more for top-end specs and design
The HP Envy 13 is not the laptop for you if:
- You want a touchscreen (the Spectre x360 is a better choice)
- You need to connect peripherals (the Spectre x360 has more ports)
Drawbacks
However, there is some bad news. As mentioned in the review, some users may not be a fan of the keyboard. While the key layout was superb and comfortable for me to use, I know that some users will find it uncomfortable, especially if they are used to keyboards with more travel. Also, while I found the touchpad to be fine for regular navigation around Windows 10 and Chrome OS, others may find it quite irritating. The same goes for the backlit keyboard as well – it was nice for me but may be more of a hindrance than an actual help in other environments.
The biggest hurdle you’ll have to overcome when considering this laptop is its price point. At $1000 USD or greater depending on what model you buy, this machine is definitely not designed for those who are on a budget (like myself). Still, if money isn’t an issue then I would highly recommend picking this over any other 13-inch laptop on the market today.”
7. Apple MacBook Air
Model Name | MacBook Air |
Brand | Apple |
Specific Uses For Product | Multimedia, Personal, Business |
Screen Size | 13.3 Inches |
Operating System | Mac OS |
Apple introduced the first MacBook Air laptop, an ultralight laptop weighing just 3 pounds with a tapered design that is as slim as its namesake implies. The original MacBook Air was a revolution in high-portability computing, but it had a price tag to match. The current generation of the 13-inch MacBook Air retains the design language of its predecessors but offers much better performance for under $1,000. This is our Editors’ Choice for entry-level laptops.
Despite being both thin and light, the 11-inch model doesn’t sacrifice on features or usability; it has two full-size USB 3 ports as well as an SDXC card slot and a Thunderbolt 2 port for connecting all manner of peripherals, from hard drives to additional monitors. It also has 802.11ac Wi-Fi for speedy connectivity when you’re connected to a wireless network, and Bluetooth 4.0 LE for connecting other Bluetooth devices like headphones or speakers wirelessly..
Apple MacBook Air Laptop
The MacBook Air is a great laptop for anyone who wants a good balance of portability, performance and battery life. This Apple laptop is also an excellent value; it costs less than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but lasts longer on a charge.
However, if you’re looking for more power than what the Air offers, or want to upgrade your laptop’s memory down the line, you may be better off with the MacBook Pro
Apple M1 Chip
The Apple M1 chip offers groundbreaking performance and custom technologies to help you get more done. The 8‑core CPU delivers up to 3.5x faster performance to fly through workflows quicker than ever. The 8‑core GPU is up to 5x faster, enabling graphics-intensive apps and games to run at lightning speeds.
And the 16‑core Neural Engine is up to 9x faster, allowing you to experience incredibly smooth real-time playback for your favorite action films or run ML models with incredible efficiency. With an astonishing 20 hours of battery life, the longest battery life ever in a Mac, MacBook Air gives you more time away from power outlets without sacrificing any of its portability or lightness.
13” Retina Display
The 13.3” Retina Display delivers a higher-resolution picture than other laptop computers (pixels are the individual dots that make up your computer display). It has over 4 million pixels in it! To put that into perspective, the average HDTV has only 2 million pixels. With 4 million pixels on the Retina Display, you can see more of your high-resolution images with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. And text is so sharp and clear you’ll feel like you’re reading email and documents on a printed page.
On this MacBook Air, you can easily see more of your high-resolution images with pixel-for-pixel accuracy on the screen by choosing one of these supported scaled resolutions:
- 1680 by 1050
- 1440 by 900
- 1024 by 640
8GB RAM
8GB of unified memory so everything you do is fast and fluid. The 8GB of memory included in the MacBook Air starts with a base configuration for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which also offers 16GB as an option. For most users, 8GB provides an excellent balance between cost and capacity, and it allows for better performance than you’d get from 4GB.
256GB SSD Storage
In addition to its blazing fast speed, the MacBook Air’s SSD storage is also more durable, power-efficient and quieter than traditional hard drives. You can save up to 25GB of your favorite music or thousands of photos on the 256GB SSD with plenty of space for programs and files as well.
With SSD, your computer will work faster and last longer, without the noise and bulkiness of a mechanical hard drive. If you ever decide that you need more storage space than what comes standard with the device, it’s easy to upgrade the SSD storage later on.
Backlit Keyboard
- A backlit keyboard allows you to type in the dark.
- Backlight is useful in dim environments, and it looks pretty cool.
- If you’re at a library or coffee shop, your keyboard’s backlight can be distracting to others nearby.
- The resolution on this device is amazing!
FaceTime HD Camera
The FaceTime HD camera lets you video chat in 720p HD with family and friends. It’s also great for taking photos, having a moving conversation, or recording a quick video with family and friends around the world.*
Touch ID. Works with iPhone/iPad; Silver
Touch ID is a fingerprint recognition feature, designed and released by Apple Inc., that allows users to unlock Apple devices, make purchases in the various Apple digital media stores (the iTunes Store, the App Store, and the Apple Books Store), and authenticate Apple Pay online or in apps. It uses the Home button as the fingerprint sensor.
It is similar to other biometric authentication technologies such as fingerprint identification. Touch ID is available on iPhone 5s and later models running iOS 7 or later; it is also available on iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 or later models running iOS 8 or later.
The feature was used for unlocking devices with a swipe across the screen every time a user would look at their device. Users also had to type their passcodes if they did not place their finger on the Home button when prompted after 48 hours of restarting their device, five failed attempts to match a fingerprint, when setting up Touch ID within Settings, when using an unrecognizable finger after 48 hours of restarting their device, etc.
When Touch ID has been used successfully once within any of those scenarios above mentioned (or if it has been less than six days since entering a passcode), it becomes possible to use Siri without unlocking your phone first.
MacBook Air is the most loved Mac — now with the powerful M1 chip
The M1 chip gives the MacBook Air the power to handle everyday tasks faster than ever. The battery lasts longer, so you can go all day without plugging in, and it’s quieter and lighter than before.2 That means you can take your Mac with you everywhere, from a nearby coffee shop to a cross-country flight — and use it for just about anything.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- The MacBook Air is a great choice for users who need a solid ultraportable laptop, but don’t want to spend a fortune on the latest model.
- As long as you take care of your battery, you can get several years of solid use from the MacBook Air.
Cons
- The MacBook Air is not a great choice for users who need a workstation. This laptop does not have the fastest processor and powerful graphics card so it’s not ideal for running high-end applications or playing video games.
Drawbacks
There are many things the MacBook Air doesn’t have:
- A Touch Bar
- An SD card slot
- A USB 3.0 port
- The option for faster RAM options
- A 4K display
- A quad-core CPU (processor)
- Iris graphics
- A discrete GPU (graphics processor) (though Apple promises a threefold increase in graphics performance with its own custom T2 chip)
- 5GHz Wi-Fi support (it supports only 2.4GHz 802.11ac wireless)
- Bluetooth 5.0

Your first priority in a new laptop should be getting something with a good screen. Don’t just check the specs, though—the resolution and the size of the display are important, but so is how it looks when you look at it. For example, do you want something that’s got a matte finish to reduce glare when you’re working outside?
Or do you want something that has an anti-glare coating? Laptops often have screens with different resolutions, which basically determines how many pixels can fit on your laptop’s screen. The more pixels there are, the sharper everything will appear. A higher resolution also means that you can see more on your screen without having to scroll constantly or zoom in on what you’re seeing.
The Acer Chromebook Spin 13 has a 2K resolution and an IPS technology display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass NBT multi-touch screen so whether he’s watching movies or editing documents, he’ll be able to see every detail clearly.
LED-backlit IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT multi-touch screen
With IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, any seat becomes the best in the house. Share what’s on your screen with friends and family. Colors stay true no matter what angle you’re viewing from. Share an intense game of your favorite racing game from almost any perspective.
From the office to the coffee shop, this Acer Chromebook Spin 13 laptop is built to keep you connected and productive all day long. Its 2256 x 1504 resolution shows off every detail as you view images or read documents, and its Intel Core i5 processor offers quick access to apps and programs when you need them most. This Acer Chromebook Spin 13 laptop has a backlit keyboard for working around the clock, and its powerful battery offers up to 10 hours of use per charge.
The Corning Gorilla Glass NBT multi-touch screen features anti-smudge coating that makes it easy to clean fingerprints off this Acer Chromebook Spin 13 convertible laptop’s display.
Intel Wireless-AC 9560 802.11ac Gigabit Wi-Fi which can deliver up to 1.73Gbps
Wi-Fi 6 is the next generation of wireless technology, and it is expected to be widely adopted in 2020. It will enable faster internet speeds and more stable connections than ever before. Wireless networks using Wi-Fi 6 will be capable of delivering download speeds up to 1.73 Gbps. That’s almost twice as fast as the previous Wi-Fi standard, 802.11ac.
The new wireless standard has other benefits too: it’s backward compatible with older standards like 802.11ac and 802.11n, so you can use your existing devices with a Wi-Fi 6 network, and it’s more power efficient too – meaning less battery drain for your laptop or smartphone compared to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac).
Bluetooth 5.0
Bluetooth 5.0 is the latest version of Bluetooth. It’s a wireless technology standard that allows devices to transfer data over short distances (up to 100 meters). Bluetooth 5.0 is faster and has a longer range than previous versions of Bluetooth, but it’s backwards compatible with older versions.
Backlit Keyboard
As you know, a backlit keyboard is a keyboard that has its keys illuminated, so that the keys can be seen by the operator in dim light. Many modern laptops have backlit keyboards.
HD Webcam (1280 x 720) with 88 degree wide angle lens supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR)
The HD Webcam (1280 x 720) with 88 wide angle lens supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR) lets you enjoy high resolution video chats with your friends and family.
With HDR, the overall contrast is higher, which results in deeper blacks and brighter whites. The added dynamic range also shows more detail in shadows, so you can enjoy a more life-like picture.
2 – USB Type C ports USB 3.1 Gen 1 (up to 5 Gbps) DisplayPort over USB Type-C & USB Charging
The 2 USB Type-C ports give you superfast data transfer speeds, the ability to connect to an external display and the versatility of the USB-C standard. The two USB 3.1 Gen 1 (up to 5 Gbps) ports allow you to quickly transfer files to and from your memory cards or external storage devices. DisplayPort over USB Type-C lets you connect your Chromebook Spin 13 to an external display, while also powering your device via a single cable. Need more power? Plug in additional peripherals with the charging port, so you can use all of your favorite devices at once!
2 – USB 3.0 Ports
USB 3.0 is the third major version of the Universal Serial Bus standard for interfacing computers and electronic devices. Among other improvements, USB 3.0 adds the new transfer rate referred to as SuperSpeed USB (SS) that can transfer data at up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s), which is about 10 times faster than the USB 2.0 standard.
Lithium Ion Battery, Up to 10-hours Battery Life
You’ll have enough power to surf the web and watch videos for 10 hours before you need to recharge again.
Even if your battery life is low, it will charge up in no time.
The average life for a lithium-ion battery is about two to three years, but there are lots of factors that can affect it too. For example, if you use the laptop for a lot of heavy games and video playback, you may find that your battery doesn’t last as long as another person who only uses their laptop for less strenuous activity like browsing the internet or watching Netflix. That said; when compared with other laptops on the market today, this Acer Chromebook has an average lifespan.
4.3 lbs. | 1.95 kg (system unit only) (NX.GTPAA.008)
The Acer Chromebook Spin 13 CP713-1WN-53NF laptop comes with a 13.5-inch 2256 x 1504 resolution, high-brightness, LED-backlit IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT multi-touch screen.
This notebook also has a backlit keyboard and Wacom EMR pen support that can be used with touch operation. The webcam supports 1280 x 720 resolution and 720p HD audio/video recording.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Very good battery life.
- Vibrant, colorful display.
- Good performance.
Cons:
- Heavier and thicker than competitors.
- Expensive for a Chromebook.Bottom Line: The Acer Chromebook Spin 13 offers strong performance, a colorful touch screen, and long battery life in an attractive package—however, it’s quite expensive for a Chromebook.
Drawbacks
- The Acer Chromebook Spin 13 isn’t cheap, and a lot of its competitors are similarly priced. If you’re willing to buy a less-powerful processor, you can save about $100 by getting the ASUS C302CA instead.
- The display is underwhelming. Not only does it have poor brightness and narrow viewing angles, but it’s also not very colorful. You won’t be wowed if you like watching TV shows or movies on your laptop.
- Battery life is pretty short, so you’ll need to keep the power cord handy when traveling with it.
- It’s heavy at 3.31 pounds (1.5 kg). That might be fine for sitting in front of your desk all day, but I’d advise against taking it on a long flight or bringing it to campus for long study sessions unless you’re prepared for lugging around a lot of weight.
- The webcam is below average compared to what we’d expect from an expensive laptop these days — colors are inaccurate and quite dull by comparison with other devices in our database that use the same camera module (e.g., HP Spectre x360).
- While there’s no denying that the keyboard feels good to type on thanks to its large amount of travel and precise key presses, I wish they were backlit keys — especially since this is such an expensive computer! That’s one feature that even budget devices often have these days!

You’ll find an FHD IPS WLED-backlit display on this laptop, too, which means you can enjoy visuals in 1920×1080 resolution. With its anti-glare technology, you don’t have to worry about reflections that come with working and playing outdoors or near windows. The 15.6-inch screen size is perfect for everyday use, plus the bezel is just 7mm thin so it’s not taking up a ton of space on your desk or table.
Intel Core i5-9300H Processor
The second generation quad-core, 8M Cache, up to 4.10 GHz processor has four cores and eight threads. That allows you to run multiple apps faster.
It has a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz with a turbo boost speed of 4.1 GHz and 8 Megabyte (MB) cache; 1 MB is roughly 1 million bytes. The processor is part of the 9th generation Intel® Core™ i5 family and uses a Coffee Lake Refresh architecture for gaming, creating, and productivity.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB)
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB) is a mobile graphics card for laptops based on the Turing architecture (TU117 chip). Compared to the older GTX 1050 (Laptop), it is a decent improvement in terms of performance. The GPU is manufactured using the 14nm process and only supports PCIe 3.0. The card uses GDDR5 memory, clocked at 8 Gbps and can be connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 interface.
Compared to the faster RTX 2000 GPUs (e.g. RTX 2060), the 1650 integrates no Raytracing or Tensor cores, but features more CUDA cores with increased clockspeeds and memory speed compared to its non-Ti variant, but still shows shortcomings compared to newer competitors like Nvidia’s GTX 1060 or AMD’s RX 5600M for example at higher resolutions like 1080p or 1440p.
The TU117 chip is produced in modern 12nm FinFET production process at TSMC, which allows for higher clock speeds than its predecessor based on a 16nm FinFET manufacturing process from Samsung/TSMC (Maxwell/Pascal).
8 GB SDRAM
8 GB SDRAM (8 GB x 1 + 4 GB x 1, upgradable to 32 GB)
The high-bandwidth RAM offers you a high-impact gaming experience, ensuring your system runs smoothly even when running multiple applications and browser tabs all at once.
256 GB SSD
A storage capacity of 256 GB is okay for this laptop. If you need more storage space, you can purchase an external hard drive or a cloud storage plan.
The benefits of having a solid state drive (SSD) in your computer include faster boot-up and application load times and better reliability (less likely to crash). There’s no platter that needs to spin up, so the read/write head doesn’t have to move about as much, which means less latency and quicker boot times.
An SSD can also handle more read/write requests at a time than an HDD because there aren’t any mechanical requirements involved in reading data from the disk.
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 Home brings back the Start Menu from Windows 7 and introduces new features, like the Edge Web browser that lets you markup Web pages on your screen. Windows 10 also offers more built-in security features improving protection against viruses, phishing, and malware.
Design and gaming performance
In no time you’ll be enjoying a variety of games, from the latest first-person shooter titles to the most graphically-demanding AAA titles. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card will make light work of these games and HD movies.
The laptop weighs just 4.85 pounds, making it very easy to carry around with you wherever you go without weighing you down. It’s also very nicely designed, giving you a gaming machine that looks nice and sleek rather than clunky and cumbersome – if that’s what you’re in the market for then this could be a great choice. You can easily upgrade components such as RAM or storage thanks to the built-in access doors on the bottom of the unit.
If you want a gaming PC that is lightweight, has great design features, impressive flexibility and has an incredibly cool color scheme then this model is definitely worth considering!
Impressive flexibility and lightness to upgrade everything
The HP Pavilion 15-dk0020nr comes with a standard full-size backlit keyboard with numeric pad and large touchpad with multitouch support. The keyboard is comfortable to type on and has a good key travel, but the keys are small and feel squishy. The fingerprint reader is located on the bottom right side of the touchpad.
Pros and Cons
As for pros, there are quite a few. For starters, the gaming performance is very solid. It can run games like Fortnite and Overwatch at smooth framerates and at full HD resolution with max settings enabled. Also, the battery life is good, averaging around 7-8 hours of use on light tasks. If you want to watch videos or play music while you work, it can stretch even further to 9 hours or so. The keyboard is comfortable to use as well and features red backlighting that looks great in dimly lit environments.
As for cons, there are two main ones: the display doesn’t get very bright and the SSD takes a while to boot up Windows 10 out of sleep mode or hibernation (takes a few seconds). If these issues aren’t deal breakers for you then this laptop is worth considering!
Drawbacks
Lack of resolution = text can be blurry unless you have a very high resolution monitor at the minimum and probably a more powerful graphics card in case that doesn’t suffice
Lack of processor = slow system performance will occur unless this is upgraded soon. Processor speeds are getting better, but they’re not up to scratch yet with high-end gaming PCs.
Lack of display = it might be hard to see some things on the screen, like your desktop background or other images. Check for an external monitor or upgrade your LCD if necessary. You can also check for DVI ports on your current HP Pavilion Gaming 15.6-Inch Micro-EDGE Laptop . If none, look into purchasing an HDMI port adaptor . Maybe there’s one on another computer you have?
That can be useful for showing computer games off on an HDTV or other monitor. You could also try changing settings in Windows to stretch the desktop across all the monitors in your display so it doesn’t just appear small on one side if none are available otherwise.
10. Samsung Chromebook 4
Series | Chromebook 4+ |
Brand | SAMSUNG |
Specific Uses For Product | Personal |
Screen Size | 15.6 Inches |
Operating System | Chrome OS |
If you’re looking for a laptop that will be easy to use and affordable on your wallet, then you should consider getting the Samsung Chromebook 4. Our lab tests revealed that this budget-friendly Chromebook has enough power to handle everyday tasks and lasts long enough on a charge that we didn’t need to be tethered to a desk or plug. And if you spend most of your time online, the Chromebook 4 is worth considering as an alternative to traditional Windows laptops.
The Chromebook 4 (which starts at $229) has a 15.6-inch display with full HD resolution (1080p), so it can show more content than most 13- or 14-inch laptops. Graphics performance from its integrated Intel UHD 600 GPU is good for watching movies and playing casual games.
While the audio quality isn’t great, the built-in speakers can fill up a small room with sound in case you want to binge on Netflix while lying in bed.
The keyboard has shallow keys with 1mm of travel distance but they’re responsive, so typing doesn’t become tedious even when working for hours at a time. The trackpad glides smoothly across the screen but lacks multi-touch gestures like pinch-to-zoom and two-finger scrolling; still, it’s large enough for navigating web pages without issue during our testing period.
Samsung
Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul. It comprises numerous affiliated businesses, most of them united under the Samsung brand, and is the largest South Korean chaebol (business conglomerate).
Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and retail.
Chromebook 4
Chromebooks are quick and easy to use, with a simple user interface and Google apps that work well. They have good battery life, fast charging, sleek designs, and are generally more durable than Windows laptops. Their touchscreens make it easier to view photos and videos or interact with apps.
The Samsung Chromebook 4 is a great choice if you’re looking for an inexpensive laptop that can browse the web, check email, stream movies from Netflix or Disney+, and handle other basic computing tasks.
Operating System
Like all Chromebooks, the Samsung Chromebook 4 runs Google’s Chrome OS. This lightweight operating system is simple and straightforward, and it runs Android apps as well, making this affordable laptop more versatile than you might expect.
The device packs a battery that lasted for nearly 10 hours on our testing, which is excellent for a Chromebook. Its display could be brighter and more vibrant, however. You should also know that this particular model has only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage; I’d recommend spending an extra $50 to double those figures to 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage if you can afford it. The screen (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) offers enough real estate to enjoy hours-long Netflix binges while working in several Chrome browser tabs at once without much lag in performance (an Intel Celeron N4000 CPU helps with that).
Chrome OS
Chrome OS is an operating system based on the Linux kernel and designed by Google to work with web applications and installed applications. Initially, Chrome OS was almost a pure web thin client operating system, with only a handful of “native” applications, all of which were written in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
Google announced the project in July 2009, conceiving it as an operating system in which both applications and user data reside in the cloud: hence Chrome OS primarily runs web applications. Source code and a public demo came that November; Google released the first Chrome OS laptop, named Chromebook Pixel, in February 2013. Early on, Google provided design goals for Chrome OS that included line-of-business (LOB) integration with managed corporate networks; multiple user support on standalone devices; hardware keyboard support; offline access to data and apps including Gmail (available since late 2014), Google Drive (available since mid 2017), Hangouts Meet (available since mid 2018), Calendar (available since early 2019) and Docs Editors; security features such as verified boot and sandboxing; easy over-the-air updating; media codec support for local playback of common audio & video formats; USB & Bluetooth device support including printers & keyboards.
Batteries 1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)
As customers, your reviews are essential in making sure the quality of the products we sell is up to standard.
This product needs one lithium ion battery. The type of lithium ion used here is 3.85 volts with a capacity of 37 watt hours and a weight of 0.7 ounces.
Processor Brand Intel
- Processor Brand: Intel
- Processor Speed: 1.10 GHz
- Processor Count: 2
- Computer Memory Type: DDR4 SDRAM
- Flash Memory Size: 64 GB
- Connectivity Type: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi
- Number of USB 2.0 Ports: 1
- Number of USB 3.0 Ports: 1
Pros and Cons
The Samsung Chromebook 4 is a great choice for anyone looking for a laptop to take on the go, but there are some drawbacks to this machine. It lacks in ports: there’s two USB-C slots and a headphone jack. No HDMI port, no full-size USB ports, no card reader.
The keyboard isn’t backlit either, making it difficult to see in dark rooms. And while many laptops have built-in fingerprint readers to log you onto your computer (and sometimes even websites), the Samsung doesn’t have one of those either.
So if you need a basic laptop that can be used around the house, or something more powerful (with more ports) then check out our other picks instead. But if you’re looking for an ultraportable, lightweight machine that can handle day-to-day tasks like streaming video and music and chatting with friends over video conference, this is your pick!
Drawbacks
The laptop has a few drawbacks. First, the screen is a little dim. Although it’s fine for watching YouTube videos and surfing the web, it’s not as bright as what you’ll find on other Chromebooks or even MacBooks.
Second, there’s no Ethernet port to plug in a wired connection; this could be an issue when you need to connect to an Ethernet-only network.
Third: Chrome OS is not for everyone. It doesn’t have all the features of other operating systems, so if you need specific apps and programs that are only available on Windows or MacOS, then this isn’t the right choice for you.
The other caveat with Chrome OS is its performance—if your workflow involves more than a dozen browser tabs and your chosen software is somewhat resource-heavy, then a Chromebook simply won’t cut it.
And finally, battery life is just okay at about 9 hours of use from a full charge; that’s good enough for most work days but probably not great if you’re traveling frequently or using your laptop away from home regularly (like in college).
