It looks pretty good! The glossy finish makes it look more expensive than it is (chrome everywhere!) and the white option is not too flashy, perfect for that casual, minimalist look you’re going for this season.
Drawbacks
There are four main drawbacks to this device:
- Lack of external storage space. The Chromebook has only 32 GB of internal storage and 4 GB RAM, which is fine for 90% of what you will use it for, but if you do want to store things locally, you’ll need an external hard drive or micro SD card reader (which it doesn’t have).
- Lack of USB ports. It has two USB 2.0 ports but no USB 3.0, although this shouldn’t be a problem unless you plan on using really high-speed peripherals like a lot of mice or game consoles. It also lacks an HDMI port; however there’s not any reason why you’d need one since everything on Chromebooks happens over the network anyway so why would anyone want to go through all that hassle?
- Lack of built in CD/DVD drive. This is probably one feature that will eventually disappear from laptops, but for now I’m still buying CDs with movies and music so I’d like them to be available if possible! No worries though because there are plenty of cheap external drives available that plug into those two USB ports mentioned above (though they’ll be slow).

Drawbacks

Drawbacks
Keep in mind this isn’t a laptop. The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is a tablet computer and a touchscreen. If you’re looking for something that’s as sturdy and comfortable to type on as a Macbook, this will not be your cup of tea.
The kickstand on the back of the device is definitely not sturdy enough to have the tablet resting on your lap, or flat against another surface (though it does come with adhesive stickers that can temporarily increase its surface area, which helps with typing). The keyboard is also not as responsive or comfortable to type on as your average laptop keyboard. That being said, if you’re using the Surface Pro 7 only occasionally—as a secondary computer while traveling, say—it might do just fine because it’s so lightweight and compact.
As for the screen itself, it’s beautiful but not quite as bright or crisp as what you’d see from an Apple device. It doesn’t seem to matter much when watching videos though; everything looks fantastic on here!

The MacBook Air is one of the lightest and sleekest laptops on the market.
Despite being a small laptop, it has a good selection of ports, including USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3 and headphone jack.
The keyboard is comfortable to type on.
Cons
The MacBook Air’s screen is dimmer than most Windows laptops, which means it isn’t as bright as its competitors. The display also suffers from poor black levels (0.18 nits).
The laptop’s battery life could be better at just 7 hours and 58 minutes in our tests (which involved constant web browsing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits brightness).
Drawbacks
First, you must be aware that this laptop does not have an HDMI port, SD card reader, or a Thunderbolt 3. If you need to connect your laptop up to a 4K external display or a DVI monitor and you don’t want to buy dongles for it, then this is not the MacBook for you.
This also means that if video editing is something you do on a regular basis (or are looking at doing) then again, this might not be the best option for your needs as these two ports are essential in these instances. Another drawback is that the MacBook Air doesn’t feature Apple’s Touch Bar (a thin OLED touch-screen at the top of the keyboard).
However Apple has stated that they’ve included Touch ID instead because it makes interacting with password-protected apps quicker and easier than using a password. The last thing worth noting is that if you want 32GB RAM in your MacBook Air then I’m afraid that this isn’t an option as yet so will have to wait until later in 2021 when Apple announces its next round of updates!

After lugging around a clunky old laptop I had for years, it seemed like my dream computer would have every feature I’d ever wanted, but also be sleek, stylish—and affordable.

It’s perfect if you’re someone who likes working or playing on your own terms: Read a book in bed or watch TV from the couch? This laptop has got you covered. Drawbacks
- The HP Spectre x360 is a beautiful laptop. It’s thin, it has an AMOLED display, and performs well. But it is also expensive and lacks some of the features that you may have grown to expect from other laptops that are similarly priced.
- No Ethernet port: If you use your laptop for work or school often and need a wired connection, the lack of an Ethernet port is a serious drawback.
