The easiest way to tell if your MacBook Air needs a new battery is by using the macOS System Information app. This app can provide details about every piece of hardware in your Mac, as well as how much wear and tear each one has endured over time.
To find out how much wear and tear is on your Mac’s battery, follow these steps:
Open System Information from the Utility folder within your Applications folder.
Select Power from the Hardware section in the sidebar.
Scroll down to Battery Information at the bottom of the window.
Look at Cycle Count.
MacBook Air computers have a built-in battery that retains at least 80% of its full charge capacity for 1,000 days. Apple recommends replacing your MacBook Air battery as soon as it reaches 1,000 complete charge cycles or after it retains less than 80% of its original capacity.
