This blog post will go through some of the features that I currently use on a daily basis with my Sennheiser GSX 1200 Pro External 7.1 Surround Sound Card. The most important feature to me is spatial awareness, which is an easy to use and straight forward EQ setting for the GSX 1200 Pro.
With this EQ setting I am able to hear more sounds around me, or hear new sounds in different ways than you would be able to in normal stereo.

I have been using this card with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10. For most uses, it works just fine. There are some instances, like when I am uploading a video to YouTube. The sound will be “choppy,” and will not go through my sound board, and instead it goes straight to the laptop’s speakers.
I usually am able to get around this by going into settings and then reinstalling the audio driver (which is very easy). I am still experimenting with what will make this work better, but for now, this external USB sound card works perfectly for my needs.
